The City of Gig Harbor is the primary economic center on the Gig Harbor Peninsula. Nevertheless, outlying communities of Arletta, Fox Island, Rosedale, Raft Island, Artondale, Kopachuck, and Purdy have neighborhood stores, schools, churches, community halls and some specialty stores. Key Center is the economic focus of the Key Peninsula, with the surrounding communities of Vaughn and Home providing either community halls or neighborhood stores as centers of community action.

The Gig Harbor – Peninsula Area’s business neighborhoods include:

  1. WestSide is located on the west side of Highway 16 at the major interchange to the City of Gig Harbor. It encompasses two supermarkets in shopping centers, five banks, two large drug stores, a medical building, a hotel and motel, numerous restaurants and fast food establishments, numerous gas stations and automotive supplies, the area’s only movie theater, and numerous office buildings and specialty businesses.
  2. Olympic Village is located on the east side of Highway 16 at the major interchange to the City of Gig Harbor. A shopping center houses a supermarket, a bank, a large drug store, several restaurants and fast food businesses, gas stations, numerous specialty businesses with several office buildings close by.
  3. Wollochet/Pioneer/Kimball is located along the Interchange of Wollochet Drive and Pioneer, another entrance to City of Gig Harbor. The city hall is located in this area, as well as the Gateway newspaper, banks, several gas stations, a fire station, a hotel, fast food businesses and many specialty businesses.
  4. Gig Harbor North is located at the Burnham/Canterwood interchange and is Gig Harbor’s newest business area and the one designed to house the large businesses such as Home Depot, Office Depot, Target and other “big box” stores. Costco is presently in review with the City of Gig Harbor to have a large branch operating during sometime in 2005. It is developed in a “village” atmosphere, with fast food, supermarket, banks and other numerous specialty businesses. There is a large amount of buildable ground still available in this area and 1,000 residential units are planned for the Gig Harbor North area in the future.
  5. Downtown Finholm Marketplace is located at the north end of Gig Harbor Bay and is one of the historic commerce areas. It currently has a grocery store, several restaurants, a marina and numerous specialty shops
  6. Downtown Westside and its historic waterfront winds along the historical west side of Gig Harbor Bay, extending up the west side. This historic area has numerous shops, banks, a post office, drug store, hardware store, inns, and several fine restaurants.
  7. Purdy is located off of WA-302 and is a gateway to the Key Peninsula. Purdy has several local businesses (banks, gas stations, a motel, and some great restaurants) and is also home of Peninsula High School.
  8. The Key Peninsula is a peninsula located between Carr and Case inlets southwest of Gig Harbor. The communities of the Key Peninsula include Lakebay, Vaughn, Home, Longbranch, Key Center, and a great deal of undeveloped land. The Peninsula is home to many small businesses including general stores, restaurants, and numerous specialty businesses.
